Snape's Visitors[]

[It is raining at Spinner's End. Bellatrix Lestrange and Narcissa Malfoy, both wearing dark raincoats, walk around a corner, down an alley.]
Bellatrix: Cissy! You can't do this! He can't be trusted!
Narcissa: The Dark Lord trusts him.
Bellatrix: The Dark Lord's mistaken! [Narcissa scoffs]
[They stop and stand up against the walls on either side as children ride by on their bikes, then continue on. Narcissa walks up to a house to her left and knocks on the door. Inside the house, someone is reading the Daily Prophet. As Bellatrix and Narcissa stand outside, Peter Pettigrew comes to the door and opens it. In the living room, Severus Snape lets his Daily Prophet drop and looks up.]
Snape: [putting the Daily Prophet down] Run along, Wormtail. [flicks his wand, shutting the door on Pettigrew]
Narcissa: [holding a glass of wine in her hand] I-I know I ought not to be here. The Dark Lord himself forbade me to speak of this. [behind her, Bellatrix walks around to the mantel and picks up a round object and examines it]
Snape: If the Dark Lord has forbidden it, you ought not to speak. [glances at Bellatrix] Put it down, Bella. We mustn't touch what isn't ours. [Bellatrix puts the round object back on the mantel] As it so happens, I'm aware of your situation, Narcissa.

Horcruxes[]

[Dumbledore pours the memory Harry acquired from Slughorn into the Pensieve; Harry sticks his head in, as the black smoke clears, Slughorn is shown tapping his hourglass.]
Riddle: [approaching Slughorn] I was in the library the other night, in the Restricted Section, and I read something rather odd about a bit of rare magic. It's called, as I understand it, a Horcrux.
Slughorn: I beg your pardon?
Riddle: Horcrux. I came across the term while reading, and I didn't fully understand it.
Slughorn: I'm not sure what you were reading, Tom, but this is dark stuff, very dark, indeed.
Riddle: Which is why I came to you.
Slughorn: A Horcrux is an object in which a person has concealed part of their soul.
Riddle: But I don't understand how that works, sir.
Slughorn: One splits one's soul and hides part of it in an object. By doing so, you are protected, should you be attacked and your body destroyed.
Riddle: [fascinated] Protected?
Slughorn: The part of your soul that is hidden lives on. In other words, you cannot die.
Riddle: [walks to the fireplace] And how does one split his soul, sir?
Slughorn: I think you already know the answer to that, Tom.
Riddle: Murder.
Slughorn: Yes. Killing rips the soul apart. It is a violation against nature.
Riddle: [fingering a ring on one of his fingers] Can you only split the soul once? For instance, isn't seven...?
Slughorn: [horrified] Seven? Merlin's beard, Tom, isn't it bad enough to consider killing one person? To rip the soul into seven pieces... This is all hypothetical, isn't it, Tom? All academic?
Riddle: [turns around to face him with a smile] Of course, sir. It'll be our little secret.
[Return to the present; Harry comes out of the Pensieve and looks at Dumbledore.]
Harry: Sir... [Dumbledore holds out his hand, motioning for Harry not to speak, then walks to his desk before turning and sitting on the steps]
Dumbledore: This is beyond anything I imagined.
Harry: You mean to say he succeeded sir, in making a Horcrux?
Dumbledore: Oh, yes, he succeeded all right. And not just once.
Harry: What are they, exactly?
Dumbledore: [standing up and turning around] Could be anything. Most commonplace of objects. [he and Harry walk up to the desk] A ring, for example. [pushes the ring forward using Tom Riddle's diary] Or a book. [holds the diary up; Harry immediately recognizes it] Tom Riddle's diary.
Dumbledore: It's a Horcrux, yes. Four years ago, when you saved Ginny Weasley's life in the Chamber of Secrets, you brought me this. I knew then this was a different kind of magic. Very dark, very powerful. But until tonight, I had no idea just how powerful.
Harry: And the ring?
Dumbledore: Belonged to Voldemort's mother. Difficult to find, even more difficult to... [shows Harry his blackened right hand] destroy.
Harry: But if you could find them all, if you did destroy each Horcrux...
Dumbledore: One destroys Voldemort.
Harry: But how would you find them? They could be hidden anywhere, couldn't they?
Dumbledore: True, but magic, especially dark magic... [Harry touches the ring, causing it to spin, showing several images of Voldemort before stopping] ...leaves traces. [walks past Harry and around the desk]
Harry: It's where you've been going, isn't it, sir? When you leave the school.
Dumbledore: Oh, yes. And I think, perhaps, I may have found another. But this time, I cannot hope to destroy it alone. Once again, I must ask too much of you, Harry.

R.A.B.[]

[It is morning, the devastation Bellatrix caused in the Great Hall is still apparent. Harry enters Dumbledore's office. He looks at Dumbledore's wand upon the desk and picks it up.]
Professor McGonagall: [entering the office] Potter... [he turns to her] ...in light of what has happened, if you should have the need to talk to someone... [Harry puts the wand down and walks past her] ...you should know, Professor Dumbledore... you meant a great deal to him. [Harry sighs and looks up at a new portrait of Dumbledore on the wall, then leaves the office]
[In a deleted scene, Harry stands in the Boy's dormitory, then goes down to the common room, where Ron, Hermione, Neville, and Ginny are all gathered around the fire.]
Hermione: [turns and sees Harry coming down the stairs and whispers to Ron] Harry's coming. [Harry walks down and turns his attention to Ginny, who appears to understand how he's feeling] Do you think he would've done it? Draco? [she, Ron, and Harry are on the Astronomy Tower]
