Jim Backus (February 25, 1913 - July 3, 1989) was an American actor and voice-actor. He is best known for his roles as Mr. Magoo and as Thurston Howell III in Gilligan's Island.
He provided the voice of Smokey the Genie in "A-Lad-In His Lamp". and as Thurston Howell III in Gilligan's Island. After the series' run ended, he continued doing guest spots on television and movies.
