Princess Morbucks is a major antagonist in The Powerpuff Girls, The Powerpuff Girls Z and the 2016 Powerpuff Girls series. She is one of the four most recurring villains in the series (alongside Mojo Jojo, HIM, and Fuzzy Lumpkins), Buttercup's rival in the original series and the 2016 reboot.

Background[]

Personality[]

The Powerpuff Girls[]

Princess Morbucks is boastful, spoiled, greedy, and dictating, even for a little girl. She throws temper tantrums whenever she wants to have something, prompting her dad to hand her cash to silence her. When denied what she wants, she becomes emotionally distressed; this often irritates every person around her.

She also wants to be a Powerpuff Girl, but doesn't have superpowers or crimefighting experience, which angers her for not letting her become one, hence only willing to become one for cosmetic reasons (since the trio are loved by everyone in the city of Townsville). She has stated that "If I can't be a Powerpuff Girl, then there won't be any Powerpuff Girls!".

However, she loves something other than herself and destroying the Powerpuff Girls: Cash. As shown, she'll only love her father if he gives her anything she wants if she asks sweetly (which she doesn't most of the time). If not, Princess throws a bratty tantrum for it. At one point, her father taps the rolled-up morning paper against his palm. This indicates that he gives her firm discipline, despite the great extent to which he spoils her financially. She also has no regard for other people's property as shown in the episode "Twas the Fight Before Christmas" when she purposely destroys a hobby horse in Santa's workshop during a tantrum.

Powerpuff Girls Z[]

Unlike her 1998 series counterpart, Morbucks does not want to become a member of the main superhero team, but rather, be noticed more by others. This motive is caused by the fact that her parents pay more attention to her older sister, and thus it can be said that this version of Princess Morbucks is (to an extent) sympathetic and compassionate.

2016 reboot series[]

Like her original counterpart, Morbucks is abusive, precocious, narcissistic, contentious, villainous, deceitful, pompous, petty, spiteful, malevolent, reproachful, argumentative, opprobrious, resentful, uncaring, aggressive, uncompromising and vituperative. She loves flaunting her wealth and using her vast riches to get whatever she wants. She brags and usually rubs her richness and fame in people's faces (specifically the Powerpuff Girls).

Like her counterpart in the original show, Morbucks mostly uses the money to give her fake super powers and to pay others to get to become a Powerpuff Girl.

Physical appearance[]

In The Powerpuff Girls, Morbucks a little girl who is the same age and same height as the Powerpuff Girls. She has small black eyes, three freckles on each cheek, a tiara, and has dark orange hair with curly puffs on the sides.

In her normal clothes, she wears a white collared shirt underneath a yellow sweater, a purple skirt, white leggings, and dark purple Mary Janes.

When a Powerpuff Girl, she wears a big gold crown with a violet gem in the center, a yellow dress with a black strap (like the Powerpuff Girl's dresses), black evening gloves (gloves that go up to your elbows, just like the actresses wear at award ceremonies), white leggings, and black boots.

In Powerpuff Girls Z, she has the same hair style, but her hair is burnt orange. She has a tiny crown with three points, and she has no freckles. She usually wears a purple and lavender dress with puffed up sleeves, a big purple bow on the waist line, a blue gem with a yellow borderon the chest area, white leggings, and burgundy Mary Janes.

Powers and abilities[]

  • Fibre-o-tomic-omic - A super suit colored yellow. It increases her strength and speed far above the average PPG. The suit can deflect laser beams and when the hand part is held out, it can send supersonic screaming backward. Also, it can give energy beams from the hand parts. While a formidable piece of weaponry, it was destroyed in its first encounter with the girls, the finishing blow being Blossom's ice breath.
  • Bribery - In the episode "Meet the Beat Alls", she exposed her powers with money. In the episode "Mo Job" she used a bunch of money to bribe Mojo into making her a weapon.
  • Money - In "See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey" she used stacks of burning dollar bills as Molotov Cocktails.
    • She has also used the money to get her all sorts of gadgets, ranging from boomerang tiaras to jet-packs to energy blasting vehicles.
  • Superpowers - (lasted for a short while on two separate occasions) In "Mo Job" and "Twas the Fight Before Christmas" she was given the PPG's powers. The first time was from being hit by a beam of Antidote X, and the second time being after Santa took away her powers right after being put on the permanent naughty list.

Appearances[]

Television[]

The Powerpuff Girls[]

In the original series, she is a spoiled and rich girl who wants to be a Powerpuff Girl for selfish reasons. However, she has no powers of her own, and instead uses her father's money to buy weapons to destroy the Powerpuff Girls because she can't become one.

She debuted in "Stuck Up, Up and Away", where Blossom explains that being a Powerpuff Girl is not about getting what she wants, having the best stuff or being popular or powerful, but about using one's own unique abilities to help people and the world. Princess buys a suit of powered armor that makes her seem invincible, but in a fight that emulates Goku, Blossom rallies the girls and destroys the armor. Princess swears she'll be out of jail shortly, but then again, no Townsville villain seems to stay in for long.

Princess tries again repeatedly: In one instance, she hires Mojo Jojo, and even gains Chemical X powers like the girls, but their savvy plus the egos of the villainous allies rob her of victory and powers. In an episode that paid tribute to the 60's band The Beatles, she, Mojo, Fuzzy Lumpkins, and HIM formed the Beat-Alls, who nearly owned the city and the girls, till a 'Yoko scheme' (a parody of how some people believe the real Beatles parted ways) broke them up. She also once simply had her father buy the City Of Townsville so she could be Mayor and outlaw crime-fighting, a scheme which fell apart when the girls legally robbed her of every last possession. In likely her most vicious petty scheme, she tricked a neglected friend the girls had made into stealing, just so she could report this to the girls and seem like an ally worthy of joining them. Though Blossom remains her archenemy, it is Buttercup who despises her the most. Princess is also featured in any 'crowd of villains' episode, most notably one where the villains send booby-trapped birthday gifts (that one and all epic fail) to the girls.

Powerpuff Girls Z[]

Instead of wanting to be a Powerpuff Girl, she instead wants to be noticed. Her powers are based on her wants to be noticed, but can't remember the evil crimes she committed after transforming. However, she tries to get the girls in trouble at school, during their normal life.

2016 reboot series[]

In the 2016 reboot, Princess Morbucks wanted to be the only Powerpuff Girl. She has a group of thugs that she names her Cash Money Crew.

Films and Specials[]

Twas the Fight Before Christmas[]

Serving as the main antagonist of the special, Princess tries to obtain her latest Christmas gift from Santa: to become a Powerpuff Girl. However, the Powerpuff Girls pointed out that Princess is too naughty due to her past crimes against them and Townsville, and that she needs to change her ways in order to earn such a gift. Upon going to the North Pole and seeing that she's the only kid on Santa's naughty list for the same reason, rather than changing her ways, Princess spitefully tampers the nice and naughty lists, so that she can be a Powerpuff Girl while the rest of the children (including the Powerpuff Girls) get coal. With her newfound powers, Princess attacks the Powerpuff Girls at the North Pole until Santa orders them to stop, having felt tired of transporting the coal throughout the world. Princess tries to get Santa to listen to her, but Santa is excited to meet the Powerpuff Girls in person as he is enthralled by their stories of true heroics. This incited a jealous Princess to outright insult Santa and demand that he gives her whatever she wants for Christmas, even at the cost of making the rest of the children very miserable. Realizing now what a despicable and selfish brat that Princess truly is and that she duped him to satisfy her greed, Santa angrily lashes her out and places her name in the Permanent Naughty Plaque as punishment for her actions so that she'll never receive a gift from him for the rest of her life. Horrified by this, Princess angrily attempts to fly away to tattle on Santa to her father, but Santa foils this by stripping Princess of her powers, allowing the Powerpuff Girls to save the holiday by delivering the gifts to the children and sending Princess to prison.

Trivia[]

  • Princess Morbucks's last name is a parody/homage to Daddy Warbucks, the adoptive father of Annie in the classic comic strip Little Orphan Annie and the musical Annie.
  • Being a spoiled and rich brat, she is based on character Veruca Salt in the Roald Dahl novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the movies Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory in 1971, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 2005.
  • Due to her bratty behavior on The Powerpuff Girls, many fans of the show consider Princess Morbucks one of the most hated characters on the show. However, she is nothing compared to Dick Hardly, who is far more despicable than Princess in heinous standards.
  • Her ways to become a Powerpuff Girl is a similar reference to the Nickelodeon cartoon series CatDog where in some episodes, Eddie the Squirrel keeps constantly begging for The Greaser Dogs (Cliff, Shriek and Lube) to let him become a Greaser just like them but they always push him around unlike the Powerpuff Girls.
  • Contrary of what some fans think about her, Princess Morbucks is not neglected by her parents. Her father is always there for her and ready to listen to her, while her mother never appears (if her father is widowed or divorced goes unspecified). She is just a spoiled brat who gets what she wants and she has absolutely no redeeming qualities which makes her the complete opposite of villains like Jack Spicer from Xiaolin Showdown.
    • However, in Powerpuff Girls Z, it's indeed implied that the anime incarnation of Princess Morbucks is neglected by her parents, who mostly favor her older sister due her talents. In fact, the anime Princess Morbucks isn't as spoiled like her original incarnation and just wants to feel appreciated.
